ARROJO Cosmetology School alumna, Dayna Goldstein, is a rising style star. After graduation, she swept through an apprenticeship with Ted Gibson Salon and is now a member of their styling team. Continue reading to find out how Dayna propelled herself to the top of the beauty industry.
How did you become interested in the beauty industry?
I’ve been fascinated with everything that has to do with hair since I was very young. I was always asking to style hair for my friends and family. I took my passion for hair and turned it into what has become an incredibly rewarding career - and it’s only the beginning.
Why did you choose ARROJO Cosmetology School?
I was intrigued by the idea of living in Manhattan and I had heard about the school through a friend. I immediately called to schedule a tour of the school and enrolled to start in a year. It gave me something to look forward to and kept me motivated to graduate from college.
What made your experience at ARROJO stand out?
I loved that the classes were small. With a maximum of 16 students per class, we each received a lot of personal attention from our educator. I was very impressed with how the curriculum is set up to make you successful after graduation. The program incorporates fundamental skills, like finding models and working with clients, to prepare you for the real world. By the time I got a job and had to find several models a week for my continuing education, I was a pro.
Any advice you can share with current or prospective students?
Dream big and stay true to who you are. Stay focused and be open-minded. Absorb everything that you learn, and refresh yourself with the basic foundations of hairstyling as you go along. Get comfortable working with different hair textures - it will set you apart from your peers. You are always learning, so trust yourself and be proud of your work.
Where has your career taken you so far?
I researched different salons and found that Ted Gibson Salon was the best fit for me. The good habits I formed in cosmetology school helped me to excel in my salon’s in-house apprenticeship. I’m now a Level 2 Stylist on our “new talent team.”
I already have a strong list of credits; I’ve worked behind the scenes during New York Fashion Week for Rachel Roy, Carmen Marc Valvo, and Lela Rose. I’ve also assisted Ted Gibson, styling celebrity clients such as Uma Thurman, Elizabeth Olsen, Ashley Greene, Carly Rae Jepson, and Katherine McPhee and backstage on the Rachael Ray Show and VH1’s “Morning Buzz.” My work has been featured in OK Magazine and on Style Network.
With so much success in just the past year, I couldn’t be happier with my career. I’m looking forward to what’s to come.
