Class 5 completed Stage 1 of the curriculum with an awe-inspiring updo competition.
In Stage 1 of the ARROJO cosmetology curriculum the goal is to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skill of classic hairdressing topics. By learning the New York State health and safety requirements; product knowledge and usage; how to shampoo, condition, treat, blow-dry, and style different lengths and different types of hair; and the right approach to the fundamental hair cutting techniques, class five have successfully completed this part of the course.
And to show off their talent, technique, and skill, the students celebrated the end of Stage 1 with a friendly updo competition. The updos were brilliant, showed detail and dexterity. A culmination of eight weeks of hard work.
After much debate Besarta’s style was named best updo, and this is what she had to say:
“These first weeks of the course have been fantastic. Everyone here is so helpful; it’s like a family; there’s never any attitude; it’s a hugely positive learning environment. I’ve enjoyed everything, especially the different hair cutting techniques we’ve learned, such as layering, graduation, square, and round. And winning this updo competition was the best end to stage 1 I can imagine. Normally, when hairstyling, you’re trying to give the client what they want, but as this was an updo using mannequins I tried to imagine my dream updo style for my own wedding day. It’s a classic design using a curling iron, hairspray and pins to create the structure, shape the style.”
