This past week, students of ARROJO Cosmetology received more rarified opportunities: Fashion Show hairstyling for the likes of Alisha Trimble, voted a top 5 emerging talent of New York Fashion Week.
Alisha Trimble’s Fall / Winter collection, premiered at the prestigious 1OAK nightclub, and featured limited edition dresses and one-of-a-kind designs that were, in equal measure, raw and edgy, elegant and sophisticated. With wonderful silhouettes and off-kilter shape, the collection was a contemporary interpretation of the femininity of Woman, in all her shapes and sizes.
Assisted by Rudy Villalobos, ARROJO educator and master colorist, and Loretta O’Connell, School Director, and with awe-inspiring effort, talent and skill, students from ARROJO Cosmetology, Class 4, created the hair for the runway show, and for the accompanying photo-shoot. Strong and stylized looks, multi-textured updos, and sleek, polished shapes showed the power and beauty and grace of modern hairstyle, providing the perfect compliment to the askew lines of the dresses, and to Alisha’s concept of womanliness.
As an additional highlight to the week, Classes 5 and 6 were invited to style hair for a prom-inspired fashion show at BLVD Entertainment Center, 199 Bowery, NYC.
The show was in honor of 1000 graduating students, from New York City’s downtown school districts. It gave our own students, assisted by ARROJO educators, Rachel Seamon and Arianna Marino, the privilege of putting to practice newly mastered styling skills as they shaped fashion-forward looks, updos, and other inspirational styles for young, likeminded individuals - all while experiencing the energy and excitement of being behind the scenes of a New York City show.
For students of ARROJO Cosmetology, this was a feel-good week of new experiences, insights and inspirations; this was oxygen for ambition; this was the first of many editorial appointments for the next generation of leaders in the hairdressing craft.

I was so proud of the hard work, skill level and teamwork shown by our attending students. They were working in real life backstage conditions and remained totally professional throughout styling the 2 required looks. They all chose to stay to watch the runway show and seeing the sparkle in their eyes and watching them see their hard work observed by an enthusiastic crowd on professional models is what makes this job so worth while. I am very proud of our students and know they have a great future ahead of them.
Loretta O’Connell - School Director
This experience was one to remember for sure! It was great to work with a few fellow classmates and see their skills at work! For myself I learn something every day in school and every time I have an opportunity to style for a photo shoot or show. Rudy from the studio was inspiring and very helpful in teaching all of us styling techniques and use of product; the styles chosen complemented Alisha Trimble’s collection perfectly! I feel like one of the luckiest cosmetology students because of all the opportunities given to all of us. Many thanks to Nick, Gina, Loretta, Rudy, and Alexandra (for getting me in here!).
It was such a great experience! Our class really worked hard and was such a great team. I learned so much from Rudy and was very helpful with each of us. The finished styles turned out so great and I am so proud of my class!
Working in the backstage conditions was difficult, but so much fun. Rudy was amazing and everyone pitched in to get the job done. Hopefully we will have more opportunities to do things like this in the future! I had so much fun and really appreciated getting to go to such a great event!
Working backstage at the Alisha Trimble fashion show was a great learning experience. I felt very privileged to have this opportunity. I feel like I learned so much working with Rudy and the Arrojo team. I had a wonderful time.
It was exciting to finally experience a real fashion show. I learned so much from this event hopefully I get to experience a lot more of this in the future. I would like to thank Rudy for being patient and helping us out as well as Loretta that made this happen for us. i loved it. Our team rocked!!!
I am so proud of all of you! A real fashion show experience with one electrical outlet and twenty models to style!
Great job!
What a thrilling experience! We were thrown into the rawness of a behind-the-scenes fashion shoot and put to work. Rudy, the head stylist, held nothing back and put our skills and speed to the test, really believing in our abilities to achieve the look that was required for a professional show. I am so grateful to Arrojo and my educators for believing in us and thrusting us into such a fast paced and challenging project. Now that I’ve had a taste of editorial styling and the thrill that comes with it I am anxious for more!
I was AMAZED by all of the students and master stylist Rudy from Arrojo! As the key makeup artist, i had a vision for the hair, clothes and makeup. I couldnt have been happier with the outcome. I have worked on many fashion shows and never have I seen such a wonderful group of people come together and make it spectacular. Working with the team from arrojo was a pleasure both on a professional level and on a personal level. They were highly focused, and i was impressed at how well they worked under the pressure of last minute notice and a rather hectic scene. I would love to work with each and every one of the stylists in the future, and am so thankful for their work along with their fun and uplifting attitudes. Seeing how driven and motivated everyone was is inspiring and should be recogonized on so many levels! You all are so great!!!!
I just wanted to say a few words about my time working on the Alisha Trimble Fashion Show/Photo Shoot. Each and every person from Arrojo Cosmetology School worked so hard to help me achieve some amazing looks for the event. They had to perform under completely new circumstances. They helped to produce high fashion looks within a limited time frame. Real world experience so early in your career..what an amazing thrill. I am so happy to send out a big THANK YOU. It would not have been as amazing as it was…and to Alisha Trimble and Christie Puccio thanks so much for the invite and I can’t wait until next time….
