Our first part-time class wowed us all with some stunning updos, created as part of an updo styling competition.
In the first part of the ARROJO cosmetology curriculum the goal is to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in classic hairdressing topics: New York State health and safety requirements; product knowledge and usage; how to shampoo, condition, treat, blow-dry, and style different lengths and different types of hair; and the right approach to the fundamental hair cutting techniques.
To show off their newfound skills, the students were asked to complete a friendly updo competition, and each aligned talent and technique with detail and dexterity to create inspired and brilliant work.
To allow individualism and versatility to shine, while retaining class unity, the overriding theme was music, with each student able to choose an inspiration from the genre, and design a look based off of that piece of stimulus.
The winner, Jessica Crocetto, made Amy Winehouse her muse, and themed her updo on the songstresses distinctive sense of style. As a prize, she won an Izunami flat-iron.

Congratulations to our very talented part time class. Their inspiration and personal interpretation of all the different genres of music really showed their personalities and was reflected in their detailed mood boards and final looks.
